ABOUT US

            About Us

Thame and District Housing Association was founded in 1964 by a group of residents who saw the need to establish social housing for local people.

We aim to provide high-quality accommodation which is affordable and at as low a rent as can be achieved while meeting the need for high-quality housing accommodation for elderly people in a sheltered setting.

The Association works to establish an environment which is quiet and supportive, where tenants are involved and they can enjoy their later years.

A few key dates in our history  -

  • We built our first housing scheme, Croft Court in Thame, in 1966 which consists of eight bedsits. So a memorable year for more than just the football :)
  • Anstey Court in Waddesdon, originally 10 flats, followed in 1968. It was then extended with a further 12 flats, common room, kitchen and guest flat in 1987. At this time we built four more flats at Playford Court in Thame.
  • Our largest scheme, Pearce Court in Thame, opened in 1978. Initially, this was 19 flats, phase two being added in 1982 with a further 32 flats with a large common room, laundry and guest room.
  • In 2007 we built 14 leasehold flats at Summersbee Court, adjacent to Pearce Court.
  • In 2019 we bought land adjacent to Pearce Court where we have built a further five flats with the final two opening in 2024.

There is a desperate need for more social housing and we are always looking for viable opportunities to create new homes.

The Association have decided to remain relatively small in order to serve our tenants better and to give them as great a quality of individual attention as possible. We now manage 116 units of accommodation – 101 of rental sheltered housing, 14 leasehold sheltered units, and one general needs property (held as the potential key to a further development site).

Our scheme managers provide advice and support to residents and facilitate connecting them with more specialist support or care when required. We provide a significant proportion of our maintenance services in-house and tenants knowing our staff helps put them at ease and enables us to provide a higher quality of service. We also provide small amounts of time for our maintenance staff to help people move in and set up their homes.

The Association has a unique personal relationship with most of its residents, running regular social events, providing regular communal and Christmas meals and events.

We operate to the most recent National Housing Federation Code of Governance which is designed to help housing associations achieve the highest standards of governance and board excellence. The Code is built around the key values that good governance is based on - accountability, integrity, openness, and equality, diversity and inclusion.

If you ever feel we fall short in any of these areas we are always very keen to hear your feedback, you can also find our complaints policy on the publications section of the website.
